It through football that people from all walks of life come together, the sense of belonging and desire to see a team succeed can inflict a lot of emotions in people. Disability Inclusion Society F.C is a team that anyone can get behind and support. Its’ DIS F.C goal though our marketing and fundraising efforts, online and in person, to raise support and funds to get more people with disabilities active, not just in football. The impact we want to have on people that are affected by a disability is create a sense of belonging to a team, get people more active and improve mental well-being through encouragement and promoting their achievements.

Disability Inclusion Society Football Club is based at DIS4U, in Billericay, Essex. DIS F.C started when their instructor Louie Luckman invited his work colleagues to play a match of football. The trainees at DIS4U loved playing football so much that we started playing on a more regular basis. The social and physical benefits of this for the guys were immense, and from there we started running sessions every week. Currently, we run sessions every Wednesday and you can see more of what we do through our social media accounts.
DIS, founded by Terry and Elaine Orchard, is a not-for-profit organisation formed to support people with learning disabilities. Both Terry and Elaine worked at a special needs school, Terry as an Artist in residence and Elaine as the Finance and Personnel Officer. Through working in this environment, they both saw the amazing characters who would travel on their journey of education.
After some time at the school, Terry raised the question ‘What happens next?’ he saw that some of the students had been at the school from 4 until 19 and formed some beautiful friendships, but when they left school, where would they go and how would they continue their friendships.
It was this question and Terry’s friendship with a student called James that formed the concept of DIS. Both Terry and Elaine soon realised students needed something special to go on to, somewhere where they could enhance their skills and continue the friendships that they had made.
DIS officially launched in April 2012; working both in the community and at the DIS Centre. Through working in the community, they can engage with residents and help to break down the invisible barriers between the able-bodied and disabled communities. Moreover, at the Centre, they can push their skills to the extreme by trying new activities and learning great new skills together.
